For more than 26 years, Marco Wendt has called San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance home — starting as a 16-year-old at the Safari Park and rising to become one of the Alliance's most beloved Wildlife Ambassadors and Spokespeople.
Marco's career began in hands-on wildlife care, developing deep expertise with an extraordinary array of avian species: cassowaries, old-world vultures, raptors, macaws, cranes, flamingoes, and far more. His bond with birds runs decades deep — some of his feathered companions he has known for over 10 years.
A passion for conservation education drew Marco toward his calling as a spokesperson — amplifying animal stories on national television, an award-winning podcast, and a 24/7 wildlife education channel reaching patients in hospitals across America.
As a proud member of the Latinx and LGBTQIA+ communities, Marco champions diversity, equity, and inclusion in conservation — believing that protecting wildlife is for everyone. He mentors youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and partners with the Intertwined Conservation Corporation.
